Second week at E.W. Flynn

These past few weeks I have been going to Flynn Elementary school, this experience it is something that we cannot learn by reading books or going to our regular classes, the teachers are great, they have made this a pleasant experience. My kids are really good students, even though they are very young, they listen and they try to paid attention to our 30 minutes sections that we spend together. I think that my reading coach Mrs. Gallant has helped us a lot though this wonderful experience. I’m doing student teaching twice a week, and every week is a new experience, I’m looking forward to my next visit which will be next Monday.

  1. Juan Carlos,
You are absolutely correct about this experience. This will never compare to what we have read in the articles or seen on television. We have been given the oppertunity to actually step into a diverse are and school and we are now able to grasp everything we have read and learned from our weekly readings.

  2. I agree. I tell people that we get to gain experience early in our education to become teachers and people are really impressed. It is great because it gives a lot of actual experience and interactions to learn from. Also like for me, I learned this is not that path I want to go. But it allowed me to find that out early. It is a great thing that RIC does this.

  3. The more we learn, the better. I totally agree with you, there is no other way we could get this experience and is a great experience because we get interact with students and that's really helpful for people who are not sure that they want to teach. By going to this service learning I realized that I love my major more than I thought, and that this is who I want to be, a teacher.

  4. I'm really glad that you are having such a positive experience with your service learning! You are 100% right in stating that there is no way to really know about the classroom until you are thrown into one yourself.
